How will the future look in 2020?

article_photo1Over the past two days, the Sterling-Rice Group held the “Futures 2010″ conference for UBS key management in order for UBS to understand change forces and potential future scenarios as well as to inform strategic planning and R&D priorities. The members of the conference were invited to take part in panel discussions and break out sessions to discuss the future of the next 10 years. The methodology utilized key steps by taking into consideration change factors (demonstrable, individual events that, when in concert with others, can lead to profound changes in the world) change forces (logical groupings of change factors that could have large scale impact on the future – both predictable and unexpected), scenarios (descriptions of alternative, feasible, and high impact future global outcomes), and implications (robust opportunities and threats to and for orgranizations and sectors and implications for strategy and operations). Notable attendees included Christian Gatard, Claude Grunitzky, Grant McCracken, Dr.Edison Miyawaki, Steve Merrill and John Petersen among others.
